the one with a job search monster

January 31, 2011

So it seems as always the job monster attacks. It ruins any and everything in sight. It makes cups of coffee go cold and writing not get done. After applying to job after job I really don’t feel like writing. The cheap seats here seems to suffer the most, but my poetry and plays do too. I’ve taken the liberty of making a horrible paint shop drawing of how it happens.

the one where I get recappy again

July 26, 2010

Just as I mildly and lovingly poke fun of the Monday weekend updates I find myself on the verge of doing a second consecutive one. I still didn’t do anything fancy enough to really warrant a recap but that is what makes it funny, no?

Probably not.

Our adventure starts on Thursday because it can. As I’ve said a few times (I think?) since being laid off most days blur into one another. Basically my week consists of three days now: Monday, Friday and Sunday.

Jimi’s unemployment week study guide:

Monday registers for 2 reasons: I file my weekly claim for unemployment and Monday Night Raw (Wrestling comes on)

Friday: Because the wife is all “I’m soo glad it’s the weekend” This day is also known as the start of the ‘often having to wear pants period’

Sunday: The wife says “I don’t want to go back to work tomorrow.” This is also the beginning of the “not having to put pants on period.”

Anypantless back to Thursday. The Three Shillelaghs headed over to the Cinematheque for the Marx Brothers Monkey Business. This was the movie that brought the wife over to the good side when it comes to The Marx Brothers. It also I believe cemented her love for Harpo.

What’s not to love?

Photobucket

Honk. Honk.

This newfound enjoyment of the Marx Brothers has spawned a possible Halloween costume. We could be the three Marx Brothers. Wifey: Harpo. Lindsay: Groucho and Me: Karl.

I’m not explaining that joke. You either get it or can Google that shit.

Friday night the wifey and I had dinner at her dad’s house. It was a good time and delicious dinner as usual. From there we headed over to the movie theatre to watch ‘Inception’ I saw three people I use to work with and 1 of them actually tried to talk to me which you know sucked. After an appropriate amount of jokes about having our minds being blown and the previews we enjoyed the movie-thoroughly.

Can I just say ‘The Town’ with Ben Affleck looks painfully bad?

Saturday I got to go back to my no pants wearing for most of the day. I relaxed at home and worked on some writing and what not. The wife spent some time with her mom and sis. That night we went to see BOOBIES! We went to Touch Supper Club to see some Burlesque.

Or as it was saved in my calendar: TATAS!

I should have taken some pics but it was a good time and there were lots of boobies! Big and naked ones! Wooo! Okay I’m done. I won’t really go into too much detail about the show cus the wife is going to review it. I will say the venue left a lot to be desired. It was tiny (That’s what she said!) and cramped and not run too smoothly.

Sunday was a nice lazy (mostly) Sunday with the wife. We lounged on the couch drinking coffee and reading together. After that we headed to the store and then again over to her dad’s house. Now since both he and her step mom are retired they got involved with the local Democrat movement. The wife (as am I) is happy about this because they wanted to do something and stay active. This led though to the wife roping me into some stuff. She agreed to help them do some canvassing. Which you know could suck and all that. Perhaps a longer post will come about that because it was definitely interesting.

From there we ran off to scott’s (clevoplanner) for a “tweetup”/ house warming bbq. It was a good time to just sit outside and chat with people. A beer in hand is always a good thing. We got to meet some people we’ve talked to on twitter. It was a good time—never going to complain when I’m surrounded by a whole lot of lovely chicks. There were more people not from twitter there and it was funny how things shaped up:

There was a hilarious separation between the two sets. Yes that picture confirms that all tweeters look alike.

All in all a good weekend.

It’s a RECAP! or My first week unemployed

March 22, 2010

Photobucket

Run! Gooo. Get to the choppa! ( I use this so much that I finally added “choppa” to the Microsoft word dictionary.)

I’m sorry I’m mixing my movie jokes again.

So my time as unemployed has begun. Like you couldn’t tell, but I digress. It’s been a weird week. I did some writing which was important. Did I make an all out breakthrough with anything? No, not really. I did do a good chunk of writing though and I managed to make some headway in the mess that is the currently play.

Organization is apparently an important thing.

I’ve made some goals. Goals are good right? I mean in soccer they are so they gotta be for me right? Cleveland Public Theatre (A local theatre here) will be receiving lots of scripts and etc from me in the near future. Also I need to be smart and take part in their ‘Dark Room’. It is held on the second Tuesday of every month and I think will be a great tool for any writer and/or actor. Actors and writers show up to a place where there is free Magic Hat beer (!) and writers bring 10 pages of writing to be read. Everyone gets together and bam just like that writers get to hear what their words sound like. Inconceivable!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Sorry I did that whole random quote thing again. It does bring me to the next thing I did which was go see The Princess Bride at the @capitolw65th. It is part of their late shift that shows cult classic movies twice a month. It was a good time and provided some nice ‘Put my arm around my wife and laugh time’ that can be hard to come by sometimes. The late shift is a good time and cheap. You get some good times (either because you enjoy the movie or because it’s so bad you enjoy laughing at it) and it only cost 5 bucks. They do a good job of making it a fun time. They’ve had cake, ice cream, candy, dress ups and giveaways.

Most of the week has been sitting on my ass. Which yes has been a good thing but it’s also sucked a bit. The main problem was that the unemployment started right as March Madness did. I’ve not been able to watch all of the games in a long time and did not plan accordingly. The weather was nice enough to take walks but since I went about my routine of writing when I wake up I’d miss the chance. I’d write till it was time for the games to begin and by then it was too late to take a walk. My ass rapidly became sore (That’s what she said!) from sitting so damn much.

St. Patrick’s Day has always been fun for me. This year was one where I didn’t have to take it off to have the fun. The wife made cupcakes that are clear proof of Gods existence.
Or that she makes tasty things. Anycupcake. What she made was chocolate Guinness cupcakes with Irish whiskey Ganache filling and bailey’s butter cream frosting. Defuckinglightful! Dinner consisted of Beef and Guinness stew also defuckinglightful. The night consisted of spending time with Julie, Brandon Lindsay and my lovely wifey at Parnell’s Pub. A real fricking Irish Pub! You don’t get no car bombs or green fricking beer at this place. What do you get? Well I got a shirt that says it has the best head in Cleveland. Yeah!

Oh yeah filed for unemployment.

Beachland Brunch on Sunday with Julie, Marc, Brandon, and the wifey was tasty as ever. The wife and I shared a Bloody Ninja bloody Mary there. Yeah I k now the name is awesome! I’m happy that I’m mixing it up with new people. I don’t have many people I let it and I sort of make it hard to get to know me, but I think my group is expanding.

Yeah Progress!

So to sum up: Filing, Sitting, writing, sitting, sitting, sitting, Drinking, shirt buying, cupcakes, stew, sitting, friends, sitting, reading, writing, basketball, basketball, basketball, soccer, sitting, The Princess Bride, sitting, Brunch, sitting,

Post it Note Tuesday: Let’s get dangerous.

March 16, 2010

Okay so I’m going to go all Darkwing Duck on you here and say: Let’s get complainy. I know Darkwing Duck’s catch phrase was “Let’s get dangerous” and not let’s get complainy. I also know that complainy really isn’t a word.

Oh man I just realized most of you probably won’t get the Darkwing Duck reference.

Sad.

Oh well. Either way here is your Post it Notes for this Tuesday Enjoy these (probably not: I wouldn’t blame ya) and if you want to read some more just clicky click the pic below. If you want to make your own go here.

Now that the advertising for the lovely supah is done let me get down to the business of being whiney awesome:

Photobucket
Yeah this one sort of speaks for itself. I lurve my new iphone.

Photobucket

So there is this train whistle like noise that goes off somewhere near our apartment like every 5 minutes. Have no idea what the hell it is. I may have to take a walk to explore.

Photobucket

I’ve been reading ‘On the Road’ again by Jack Kerouac. This of course leads me to want to ride the rails and hitch the country.

Photobucket

Speaking of reading I finally found a copy of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. I’ve read it before but really needed to own it and thanks to Half Price Books I now do.

Photobucket

Apparently I’m a (co)director now. We had our first meeting/read through last night. I’m a bit freaked out but you know that’s probably a good thing. That may

Photobucket

I complain about commercials a lot in these but for some reason those “Crazy King” commercials from Burger King really piss me off. I don’t know why it just does.

Photobucket

Now I’m all for nostalgia. I mean its part of the reason I still watch wrestling is the fact that I watched it with my mom when I was younger. The Nasty Boys were great then but these days they sort of flop around like manatees who had bad knees surgically attached but don’t know how to use them.

Photobucket

Day 1 of unemployment was really uneventful. This is especially true in terms of writing. I didn’t work on anything. Hell I didn’t even write a blog post. That will simply have to change.
